Passive Cooling

Comfort without a compressor

The method, plainly

The cheapest, cleanest cooling is the one designed into the building's bones. Before any equipment, we arrange the plan, the openings and the mass so the air moves itself.

It is comfort that survives a power cut, needs no service contract, and costs nothing to run - the climate doing the work, by design.

Why we reach for it

Lower running cost and carbon
Steady, healthy indoor air
Resilience during power cuts
Comfort that needs no maintenance

how it comes together

A few unhurried moves, in the order we make them.

01
Read the site

Sun path, prevailing breeze and shade are mapped before the plan is drawn.

02
Shape the air

Openings, courtyards and stacks are placed to pull cool air through and push hot air out.

03
Add mass & shade

Earth walls and deep eaves store coolness and keep the sun off the skin of the building.

And we will say honestly whether passive cooling belongs there.
